SAN JOSE, Calif. — Video that appears to show a woman abusing three dogs she was out walking Monday morning has led to an investigation of the incident by San Jose Animal Care and Services.
The man who recorded the incident spoke to KTVU about the apparent abuse in addition to providing a copy of the video. He also gave a copy to investigators.
The incident happened in a residential neighborhood in South San Jose.
"She began yanking the three dogs she was walking, violently yanking them," said private investigator Joey McGlinchy of Pleasanton. "And then she proceeded to kick some of the dogs."
McGlinchy was in the area working on an unrelated matter when he said he noticed the woman's angry behaviour towards the dogs.
McGlinchy started to videotape her.
"It happened in the course of three to four minutes," McGlinchy explained. "Being a private investigator, I was trying to get some evidence."
Cindy Carrasco, a woman who lives in the neighborhood, said she also saw the woman abusing the dogs.
"I hope the dogs will be taken from her," said Carrasco. "I hope they find her."
McGlinchy called police, leading to the investigation by animal services. Officers said they patrolled the area, but didn't find the woman.
"It's horrible, to do it out in public," said San Jose Animal Services Captain Jay Terrado.
Terrado said they will be out in the neighborhood again Tuesday. Animal control want to locate the woman and the dogs to make sure the animals are okay.
"There could be multiple occasions that she assaulted the dogs," said Terrado.
"If I saw her, I'd call the police," said neighbor David Sarasua. "I thought they should take her out and kick her down the street, really what they did to the poor dogs."
"It shocked the conscience is what I would say," McGlinchy added. "It came out of nowhere."
The woman is described as Caucasian, five-foot-eight-inches tall, about 125 pounds with dirty blonde hair.
McGlinchy is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information that will help find the woman.
